Alex Genov

Head of Marketing Insights & Customer Research at Zappos

Alex Genov is the Head of Marketing Insights & Customer Research at Zappos. Prior to joining Zappos, Alex was a co-founder at InquiStat Inc., a market research company for startups and small to medium businesses. Alex and their team at InquiStat grew the company from the ground up, developing a unique Research as a Service platform which combined easy DIY solution with personal touch.

InquiStat's mission was to help businesses survive, grow, and prosper through access to much needed market and customer insights. The InquiStat team believed that startups, small, and medium-sized businesses deserved access to the same sophisticated market research that companies with large marketing budgets enjoy.

The InquiStat team developed a strong value proposition, offering a service that started by understanding the client's business needs, translating those needs into the best research method money can buy, and making research design easy and accurate with templates and automation. The InquiStat platform made complex data analysis as easy as pressing a button and provided insights and answers instead of data tables and PPT decks.

Despite a strong value proposition and initial success, the InquiStat team was unable to keep the company afloat. Alex and their team members cited a lack of passion for the idea on the team as a whole, no real commitment (night and weekend work only), no clear roles or structure to the team, no one calling the shots, did not create an MVP, lack of team

Alex Genov has a PhD in Experimental Social Psychology from Clark University. Alex also has a BA in Social Psychology from Cornell University. Alex is currently pursuing a career in International Economic Relations at the University of National and World Economy.

Alex Genov reports to Ginny McCormick, Chief Marketing Officer. They work with Tyler Williams - Director of Brand Experience, Ryan Olivieri - VP, Zappos at Work & Business Development, and Megan Sheffield - Director of Brand Partnerships.
