Ryan started their career as a Graduate Student (M.Sc.) at the University of Calgary from September 2010 to July 2013. Their thesis work involved investigating the effect of compressive mechanical loading on cartilage cells. Ryan also gained extensive experience with confocal laser scanning microscopy and mechanical testing of soft biological tissues.

Finally, Ryan gained internship experience at Inter Pipeline Fund from May 2008 to August 2009. As a Pipeline Engineering Intern, they supported the development and implementation of new capital growth projects and conducted hydraulic simulations for diagnostic and investigative purposes.

Ryan Madden completed their Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calgary between the years 2005 and 2010. Ryan later pursued a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Biomedical Engineering from the same university, which they completed from 2010 to 2013.
