David Vega

David Vega has a diverse work experience spanning over multiple companies and roles. David currently works at Ansys as a Lead R&D Engineer since November 2021. Prior to this, they were a Senior Application Development Engineer at Zemax, LLC starting from June 2021.

David also has experience as an Optical Engineering Consultant, where they were involved in designing, modeling, tolerancing, and validating optical systems for various projects. David provided project support, validation, and revision. David held this position from August 2019 to June 2021.

Before their role as a consultant, David worked at The BIO5 Institute as a Senior Optical Engineer starting from August 2016. David served as a project manager and a senior optical and integration engineer for multimodal endoscopy. David was involved in research and development of optical and optomechanical components. David also briefly worked as an Optics Research Specialist at the same institute in July 2016.

David's journey started at the University of Arizona in August 2016 as a Graduate Research Associate. Here, they served as a project manager and senior optical and integration engineer for multimodal endoscopy. David was involved in research and development of optical and optomechanical components and held this position until May 2021.

Prior to their time at the University of Arizona, David worked as a Research Assistant at the SETI Institute from June 2014 to July 2016. Here, they focused on big data/imaging processing, analysis, and statistics. David also implemented early neuronal networks and evaluated adaptive optics performance.

David also has experience as a Lecturer at Cal Poly Pomona. From June 2015 to June 2016, they taught optical physics lab and mechanical, E&M physics. David also worked as a Research Assistant at the university from August 2013 to May 2015. In this role, they worked on tapered fiber optical sensors, super-resolution imaging processing, optical design, and data management.

Before their academic and research roles, David owned PCServices from June 2005 to September 2013. Here, they developed IT solutions and integrated information systems for small businesses. David also created market development solutions for cable/satellite companies and the first 4G networks using WiMAX.

David Vega has a comprehensive education history in the fields of biomedical and optics/optical sciences and engineering. From 2016 to 2021, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree at the University of Arizona. Prior to this, from 2016 to 2018, they obtained a Master of Science (MS) degree in Optics/Optical Sciences from the same university.

Before their time at the University of Arizona, David attended California State Polytechnic University-Pomona from 2012 to 2015, where they earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Mathematics. Additionally, they studied at Riverside City College from 2008 to 2012, graduating with an Associate of Science (AS) degree in Computer Science and an AS degree in Information Technology.

In terms of additional certifications, David has acquired several qualifications. David completed courses such as "Leading Productive Meetings," "Make the Move from Individual Contributor to Manager," "New Manager Foundations (2022)," and "Onboarding New Hires as a Manager," all through LinkedIn in March 2023. Furthermore, they possess certifications in optical design software, including "CODE V" and "LightTools" from Synopsys' Optical Solutions Group, as well as "VirtualLab Fusion" from LightTrans International UG. David also holds certifications in advanced optical system design, illumination & stray light, and optical system design, all granted by Zemax, LLC.
