Ali Alavi

SVP Of Software Engineering at ZeroFOX

Ali Alavi has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. Ali began their career as a Software Engineering Intern at Apple Inc. in 1992. From there, they worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Sydney in 1993. Ali then joined MicroStrategy Inc. in 1994, where they played a key role in pioneering web-based business intelligence and led teams in building innovative and powerful reporting interfaces. During their time at MicroStrategy, they were also recognized with four patents. In 2004, they joined Appian Corporation as VP of Software Development, where they played a pivotal role in designing and developing a platform for building business software. Ali also led a global team of engineers and contributed to the architecture and features of the product. In 2013, they joined Usher.com, MicroStrategy as VP of Software Engineering, leading a team in building the MicroStrategy Mobile Identity Platform. Following that, they worked at RSA, The Security Division of EMC, as Sr. Director of Software Engineering, where they led a global team in building Security Analytics, a leading tool for detecting and investigating advanced security threats. In 2015, they joined MACH37 Cyber Accelerator as a Stars Mentor, mentoring the next generation of security startup founders. That same year, they joined ZeroFOX, where they currently hold the position of SVP of Software Engineering. In 2018, they also became a member of the DC CTO Club. Throughout their career, Ali Alavi has demonstrated expertise and leadership in software engineering and product development.

Ali Alavi earned a B.S. and M.Eng. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (Course 6.3) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1989 to 1994. Prior to that, they attended William Penn Charter School from 1984 to 1989. In addition to their formal education, Ali has obtained certifications in various topics such as emotional intelligence, convolutional neural networks, and machine learning from institutions like LinkedIn and Coursera.
