Richard Hopkins had a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. Richard began their career at HSBC as an Analyst in 1996 and later worked at Credit Suisse as a Director in the European Energy Group. From 2007 to 2010, they served as a Director in Corporate Finance at Westpac Banking Group NZ. Hopkins then joined Ballance Agri-Nutrients Ltd in 2011, where they held various roles including Chief Financial Officer, Acting General Sales Manager, and Business Development Manager. In 2015, they became an Angel Investor at Enterprise Angels. Hopkins's most recent role was as the Chief Financial Officer at Zespri International, which they started in 2019. In 2020, they also became a Director at Priority One Western Bay of Plenty.
Richard Hopkins attended the University of Warwick from 1992 to 1995, where they completed a BSc (Honours) degree in Chemistry. In 1995, they continued their education at the University of Leeds and obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in 1996. Later, in 2018, they enrolled in the Institute of Directors in New Zealand to complete a Company Directors Course in Governance.
