Tuo Wang

Tuo Wang is a Senior Battery Scientist at Zeta Energy. Prior to joining Zeta, Tuo was a Graduate Research Assistant at Rice University from August 2014 to November 2018. In this role, they proposed and conducted research projects on synthesis and characterization of carbon, inorganic and polymer nanomaterials and their composites, and their applications in deicing/anti-icing devices, energy storage devices including batteries, supercapacitors and fuel cells, and energy conversion devices such as water-splitting devices.

During their time at Rice University, Tuo made several important contributions to the field of nanomaterials research. Tuo built ultrafast charging Li metal anodes using asphalt-derived porous carbon materials and graphene nanoribbons synthesized via CVD and wet-chemistry. Tuo also invented a sensor for detecting Li dendrite formation in an ordinary two-electrode system for Li metal batteries to improve battery safety.

In addition to their work on batteries, Tuo also developed an ultrastiff 3D graphene foam using powder metallurgy method as a conductive filler for polymers that substantially enhances the mechanical and electrical performance of the polymer matrix. Tuo also fabricated deicing and anti-icing films with superhydrophobicity and mechanical robustness using chemically functionalized graphene nanoribbons.

Tuo's research also extended to fuel cells and water splitting, where they studied heterogeneous catalysts for these applications which included MoS2(1-x)Px ("solid solution"), laser-induced graphene, and Ru-doped graphene. Tuo also synthesized red phosphorus-graphene nanocomposite for Li-ion batteries via high-power tip-sonication.

Tuo's significant contributions to the field of nanomaterials research have led to him being recognized as a leading expert in the field. Tuo has authored numerous papers in prestigious scientific journals and has been invited to give keynote speeches and presentations at major international conferences. Tuo's work has had a major impact on the development of new energy technologies and they are poised to continue making significant contributions in this area in the years to come.

Tuo Wang graduated from Peking University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. Tuo then attended Rice University, where they earned their Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry.
