Derek Smith

Derek offers more than a decade of experience to his role as Chief Strategy Officer at ZoomInfo. Based in Vancouver, Derek focuses on innovation and corporate strategy, having overseen several key initiatives.

Derek began his career with ZoomInfo in 2007, then DiscoverOrg, as the company’s first research analyst while he was working through law school. He returned to the company in 2016 as Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives before being promoted to Senior Vice President of Innovation and Data R&D, and was named Chief Strategy Officer in 2021.

Between his two stints at ZoomInfo, Derek worked for Major League Baseball as a Director of Special Projects, focusing on investigations, labor relations, and emerging technologies for the Commissioner’s Office in New York. While with MLB, Derek was the lead analyst in the largest drug bust in American professional sports history. Prior to his time in baseball, he interned with the Cleveland Browns’ legal department.

Derek was named to the Portland Business Journal’s “40 Under 40” list in 2019.

Derek holds a J.D. from The Moritz College of Law at Ohio State University, a M.S. in Data Science from Northwestern University, and a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Colorado Boulder.
