Senior Scientist, Protein Scientist at 23andMe

Lino is a Senior Scientist in 23andMe’s Therapeutics division where he heads up the Protein Sciences group. Prior to this, he worked for 15 years in Genentech’s Protein Chemistry department where he oversaw a group that studied therapeutically important protein-receptor interactions.

Lino received his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of California, Santa Barbara and completed his Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied the structural specificity of protein interactions. Lino did a postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford focusing on the structures and biochemical properties of neuronal membrane proteins involved in neurotransmitter release.

Lino has published over 30 peer reviewed scientific and review articles, which have garnered over 2,100 citations. In addition to his research, Lino has been a strong proponent for broadening participation in the STEM workforce. For his contributions, Lino was recognized with a Genentech Diversity Champion corporate award in 2005.
