Jumi P.

Jumi P. has a diverse and extensive work experience in the scientific and healthcare field. Jumi currently works at 54gene as the Vice President of Molecular Genetics and Biobank Operations, where they are responsible for expanding operations in Molecular Genetics within the organization and across Africa. Prior to this role, they served as the Senior Director of Molecular Genetics and Biobank Operations, leading a team of scientists in multiple laboratories focused on molecular diagnosis of COVID-19 and researching genetic drivers of diseases in Africa. Jumi also worked as the Director of Scientific Research, involved in various research projects and setting up a molecular genetics laboratory in Nigeria.

Additionally, Jumi P. is an Editorial Board Member for the Journal of Clinical Research and Community Health, contributing to the dissemination of knowledge and information on health and disease. Jumi has also served as a STEM Ambassador for STEM Learning UK, promoting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education, and as a Senior Research Scientist at The Institute of Cancer Research. In the latter role, they collaborated with pharmaceutical companies and research institutions, conducted evaluations of small molecule inhibitors, and supervised students.

Earlier in their career, Jumi P. worked as a Medical Laboratory Scientist at Chevron. Overall, Jumi P. has demonstrated a strong passion for improving healthcare in Africa and globally, and has extensive experience in research, molecular genetics, and scientific leadership.

Jumi P. attended Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, in 2021 for an Executive Leadership Programme. Prior to that, they pursued a Ph.D. with Integrated Studies in Molecular Genetics at The University of Sheffield from 2005 to 2009. Before their Ph.D., they completed a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Molecular and Genetic Medicine at The University of Sheffield from 2004 to 2005. Jumi P. received their Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Medical Microbiology from the University of Lagos between 2000 and 2004.
