Jay Chaplin

Jay Chaplin has extensive work experience in the field of immunology research and innovation. Jay is currently working at Abcam as the Head of Immunology Research & Innovation and Site Lead for the Branford Research Center. Prior to this role, they held the position of Head of Immunology Research & Innovation at Abcam.

Before joining Abcam, Jay worked at Exact Biotechnologies as the Chief Scientific Officer and Director of Immunology. In this role, they were responsible for designing and driving bench programs to develop novel vaccines for infectious diseases, oncolytic viruses, and immune oncology applications.

Jay also took a professional sabbatical where they focused on rationally engineering cellular and viral immunotherapies. During this time, they developed strategies for platform engineering in cellular therapies and live attenuated vaccines.

Jay Chaplin has an extensive education history. In 1988, they received their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Jay then went on to obtain a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry from the same university between 1992 and 1995. Continuing their education, Jay earned a Ph.D. degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology, with an affiliation in the Immunology Department, from the University of Washington between 2007 and 2012. In 2019, they pursued a Project Management Certificate from Edmonds College.
