As the Director of Launch Operations at ABL, you will be responsible for all aspects of launch operations and infrastructure.  This includes vehicle integration, pad systems readiness, payload integration, and launch. You will lead a multi-disciplinary team and ensure best-in-class launch operations while adhering to stringent cost and schedule requirements. This role demands meticulous attention to detail and excellent interpersonal skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct launch campaigns from pre-vehicle arrival pad preparations through integrated vehicle checkouts and on-pad launch operations.
  • Deploy, setup, and operator modular ground systems across different launch sites.
  • Lead, mentor, and support staff.
  • Build and support a team of engineers and technicians for launch operations.
  • Develop and maintain program plans, budgets, and schedules.
  • Manage external contractors and suppliers.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to reduce launch campaign durations and scope.
  • Collaborate with vehicle, propulsion, and operations teams to update procedures, documentation, and tools for vehicle or site upgrades.
  • Oversee administration, supply chain and logistics.
  • Coordinate with FAA, SLD/30, SLD/45 and other agencies.
  • Ensure health and safety of team.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10+ years of experience in Test, Launch, Propulsion, or Aerospace program leadership with hands-on field experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering management, computer science, or similar technical field.
  • Experience with ground support equipment and test assemblies, including mechanical, fluids, electrical, and communication systems.
  • Experience In leading teams, work autonomously, and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with engineering and construction codes and regulations.
  • Familiarity with AFSPCMAN 91-710, RCC 319/324, and explosive siting requirements.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 15+ years of experience engineering, building, and/or leading and managing high-performing teams.
  • 5+ years of console operations for integrated vehicle and pad operations.
  • Advanced degree or training in engineering, engineering management, computer science, or similar technical field.
  • Prior experience with launch vehicle operations at test or launch facilities.
  • Experience running rocket engine test programs.
  • Experience working with Space Force, NASA, FAA, and other state & federal government offices.
  • Proven ability to define work scope, establish requirements, and drive progress in an ambiguous settings.
  • Proficient in creating, tracking, & communicating budgets, schedules, and progress.
  • Proven strong work ethic and ability to lead by example.
  • Ability to work & execute in dynamic and austere environments.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to travel to launch sites as required. (Travel in excess of 60%)
