Matthew Becker

Matthew Becker is the Chief Engineer at ABL Space Systems. Matthew has held this position for 3 years and 10 months, during which time they have established RS1 fluid system architecture, defended it from scope creep, and championed configuration control, design best practices, and reliability initiatives. Matthew has also rolled out streamlined processes that improve the operating capacity of every individual at ABL.

Previously, Matthew was with Virgin Orbit for 1 year and 8 months as Propulsion Components Manager and Propulsion Lead Components Engineer. In this role, they maintained the qualification and acceptance testing requirements matrix for all components on LauncherOne, created and maintained the Line of Balance for all major vehicle components, and flowed system requirements down to component-specific requirements. Matthew also reviewed and signed off on in-house and vendor drawings, design reviews, and test data reviews, and drafted up Statements of Work (SOW) to leverage experience of industry experts.

Before joining Virgin Orbit, Matthew spent 3 years 10 months at ABL Space Systems, where they were Head of Components. In this role, they were responsible for establishing requirements for all major fluid components and plumbing systems on RS1, identifying commercial solutions for all major components, and incorporating cost and scope consolidation efforts. Matthew also identified candidates for in-house development of components, then personally started on said development, including ignition systems, actuators, valves, and manifolds. In addition, they activated an extensive library of standard components, design tools, and literature to accelerate company development timelines.

Matthew Becker attended The Pennsylvania State University from 2008 to 2012, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering. While at Penn State, Matthew was involved in the Student Space Programs Laboratory, where they gained experience in the field of aerospace engineering.
