Terence Dougherty

Terence Dougherty serves as Deputy Executive Director & General Counsel at ACLU, overseeing operational functions, general counsel unit, and technology and analytics. Terence also serves as Chief Operating Officer & General Counsel, responsible for finance, HR, operations, IT, and digital initiatives. Previously, Terence established the first general counsel team at ACLU and worked as an Associate Lawyer specializing in nonprofit and tax law at Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP and Fried Frank. Terence holds a Juris Doctor from Columbia Law School and a Bachelor's degree in English Literature, American History, and Viola da Gamba performance from Oberlin College.
