Vikrant Borse, PhD

Vikrant Borse, PhD, has a diverse work experience in the field of research, with a focus on gene therapies for the inner ear. Vikrant is currently working as a Scientist II at Akouos, where they conduct in vivo and ex vivo experiments for the development of gene therapies. Their responsibilities include performing histologic preparations, microscopy, and tissue harvests. Prior to this, they worked as a Senior Scientist at Otonomy, Inc, where they contributed to preclinical and clinical development efforts, designed and conducted studies, and maintained knowledge in Otology.

Before their industry positions, Vikrant served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, and as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. During their doctoral studies, they worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, where they published first-author papers and contributed to additional projects. Vikrant also had brief stints as a Lecturer/Instructor at the University of Mumbai and as a Research Scholar at the N. Shankaran Nair Research Centre for Nanotechnology and Nanobiotechnology research. Furthermore, they gained research experience as a Research Intern at ICMR, NIIH. Throughout their career, Vikrant has demonstrated expertise in various research techniques and a commitment to advancing the field of gene therapies for the inner ear.

Vikrant Borse, PhD, obtained their Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Biotechnology from the University of Mumbai in 2008. Subsequently, they pursued a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Biotechnology from the same university, which they completed in 2010. Motivated to further their education, Vikrant then enrolled at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in 2011 and successfully completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Pharmacology and Neuroscience in 2017.
