Michael Christensen

Distinguished Software Architect / Director of Digital Health at Alexandra Instituttet

Michael Christensen has a diverse work experience spanning over several years.

Michael began their career as a Software Developer at Aarhus University in 1994, where they conducted research and development for experimental systems development. Michael worked on the implementation of reverse engineering and round-trip engineering facilities.

In 1997, Michael became a Senior Object-Oriented Analyst, Designer, and Implementer, focusing on developing tools for experimental systems in the Esprit III project EuroCODE.

From 1998 to 2001, they worked on the DESARTE project as a Software Designer and Principal Developer, creating a collaborative 3D workspace client called Manufaktur. This project aimed to provide computer support for architects and landscape architects.

Michael then became part of the WorkSPACE project at Aarhus University from 2001 to 2003. As a Project Manager for Software Development, they focused on developing software components and hardware artifacts for augmented reality work environments.

In 2004, they joined 43D ApS as the Chief Technology Officer, where they held that position until 2023.

From 2011 to 2015, Michael worked at Aarhus University again, this time as the Chief Software Architect and Expert in Use Centered Design at the Center for Pervasive Healthcare. Michael also took on the role of Project Manager and Lead Software Architect for the Connect2Care and End2EndDemonstrator projects, focusing on open international standards and software solutions for healthcare IT.

Most recently, Michael has been with Alexandra Instituttet since 2015. Michael started as the Chief Software Architect at the Data Science & Engineering Lab and later became the Principal Software Architect at the Health-IT lab. In these roles, they worked on multidisciplinary projects and acted as a coordinator for the software group in the open source organization 4S.

Overall, Michael has a wealth of experience in software architecture, project management, and interdisciplinary collaboration in various research and industry settings.

Michael Christensen obtained their M.Sc. (Cand. Scient.) degree in Computer Science from Aarhus University. Michael attended the university from 1988 to 1994.
