POSITION OVERVIEW

Works closely with cross-functional teams including Applications, Engineering, Project Management, and Manufacturing to identify and mitigate quality risks. Audits production processes, raw materials, and suppliers/vendors to ensure that established quality standards are met. Conducts root cause analysis for defects, non-conformities, or other quality failures. Responsible for ensuring compliance with all internal and customer quality standards.  Handles complex issues and refers only the most complex issues to the Quality Manager. Possesses comprehensive knowledge of quality and manufacturing subject matter. Provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to their team and others within the organization and supplier base.

TOP 5 RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Coordinate and supplement day to day responsibilities of Inspectors, Techs, and lower-level Engineers
  2. Represent the Quality Department in design reviews, FMEA’s, and New Product Development projects
  3. Develop and improve Quality and organizational processes with implementation of SPC and Six-Sigma tools
  4. Champion Quality Alerts and implement Corrective Action
  5. Develop, report, and be accountable for Quality Department metrics

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES

  • Lead Root Cause Analysis exercises (5 Whys/Basic Problem Solving, Fishbone)

  • Develop GR&R Reports and Capability Studies using Minitab software

  • Work with suppliers as the main point of contact through the Non-Conformance/Quality Alert processes

  • Lead Supplier Development initiatives and evaluate quality of outsourced components

  • Facilitate and/or participate in Kaizen events and DMAIC projects

  • Participate in APQP process and meetings for Alliance customers

  • Provide guidance to Quality Inspectors on 3D probing and scanning (FARO/PolyWorks), evaluate inspection reports as necessary

  • Provide training and mentoring as needed to manufacturing personnel, suppliers, engineers, and others

  • Verify internal and customer specifications are adhered to in the production of components and building of machines; identify necessary revisions or exceptions to specifications as necessary

  • Work with department managers and Manufacturing Engineers to develop and maintain fabrication/machining guidelines

  • Work with Manufacturing Engineers to develop PPAP plans as necessary for standard components

  • Work with New Product Development team to define and perform testing on new or revised product

  • Supports quality objectives and company vision through auditing, training, and document creation/revision

  • Keeps the Quality Manager informed of issues, concerns, and areas for improvement

  • When necessary, travel to supplier and customer facilities for audits and evaluations

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • Extensive practical knowledge of quality systems and principles

  • Extensive knowledge of machining and welding callouts/drawings as well as GD&T application and methodology

  • Knowledge of APQP and Customer/Product Qualification

  • Experience with real world applications of Lean Six Sigma principles

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, and OneNote)

  • Proficient in PolyWorks metrology software (Preferred)

  • Proficient in MiniTab statistical software (Preferred)

  • Familiar with ISO 9001 standards

  • 4-6+ years of practical/hands-on Quality and Manufacturing experience
  • BS degree in Quality or related manufacturing field (Preferred)
  • ASQ or equivalent belt certification (Preferred)
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking
  • Ability to crawl under, over, and around machines and equipment
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times
  • Work will be approximately 50% at a desk and 50% on the manufacturing floor
