Mary Carbonara has a diverse work experience in the performing arts industry. Mary has served as the Director of Community Programs at Alonzo King LINES Ballet, where they oversaw various youth and community programs. Additionally, Mary has been a teacher for over 20 years, working with prestigious institutions such as San Francisco Ballet and UC Berkeley. Mary is also the Founder and Director of Hamster Dance Academy, which offers creative movement and dance instruction for children. Mary has also founded their own modern dance company, Mary Carbonara Dances, focusing on creating works that address social, spiritual, and intellectual concerns. Prior to their work in the arts, Mary worked as an independent Public Relations Consultant, representing various dance companies, theaters, and arts organizations. Mary has also held positions as a performing arts publicist, choreographer, and account executive in the field of public relations.

Mary Carbonara obtained a BA in English from Barnard College, where they studied from 1984 to 1988. Following that, they pursued an MFA in Performance & Choreography at Mills College between 1996 and 1998.
