Mike Riess

Mike Riess has extensive work experience in various roles and companies. Mike started their career as a volunteer at LifeHouse Agency in 2001. In 2009, they interned at FreeCause. Later in 2010, they worked as a Communications Intern at AMIDEAST, where they managed corporate donor relations.

From 2010 to 2011, Mike worked as a Web and Development Consultant at Karamah, where they developed and managed the organization's website.

In 2011, they served as a Research Assistant at Jefferson Waterman International, producing research and marketing materials for clients. Mike also worked as an Executive Assistant to the Executive Director at the San Francisco Food Bank during the same period, supporting various departments and facilitating information flow.

In 2012, Mike completed a 10-week intensive course in web development at Dev Bootcamp, focusing on Ruby, Rails, Javascript, and other languages.

From 2013 to 2014, they worked as a Software Engineer at The Climate Corporation, an agtech company.

In 2014, Mike joined Lumity, Inc. as a Software Engineer, where they built web applications and led client-side development.

In 2018, they became a Software Engineer at Alto Pharmacy, and gradually advanced to the role of Senior Engineering Manager and then Director of Engineering. At Alto, Mike's work focused on healthcare/pharmacy systems and e-commerce, developing features and flows to improve patient health outcomes.

Throughout their career, Mike has gained experience in various programming languages, web development, project management, and communication skills.

Mike Riess has a BA in International Relations, Chinese, and Arabic from Tufts University, which they completed from 2006 to 2010. In 2010, they received a State Department Critical Language Scholarship for Arabic. In 2009, they studied at Beijing Daxue and the Yemeni College of Middle Eastern Studies. Prior to that, they attained an International Baccalaureate from the United World College of South East Asia from 2004 to 2006.
