Maisie Hughes

Vice President, Urban Forestry at American Forests

Maisie Hughes has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades in various roles related to urban forestry, landscape architecture, and environmental design. Maisie currently holds the position of Vice President of Urban Forestry at American Forests, where they are responsible for implementing the strategy and operations of the Urban Forestry team and overseeing the delivery of the Tree Equity program. Prior to this, they served as the Senior Director of Urban Forestry at the same organization. Before joining American Forests, Maisie co-founded The Urban Studio, where they played a key role in the company's operations. Maisie has also worked as a Consultant at Design Virtue, where they focused on urban design, sustainability, advocacy, and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. During their time as an Innovation and Leadership Fellow at Landscape Architecture Foundation, Maisie worked on a web documentary series exploring the relationship between urban landscapes and identity. Maisie has also held positions at Casey Trees, Morgan State University, Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, and DC Parks and Recreation, where they contributed their expertise in design, advocacy, sustainability, and managing environmental design projects.

Maisie Hughes received an Executive Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Georgetown University in 2020. Maisie also holds a Master's degree in Landscape Architecture from Morgan State University. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Arts in Afro-American Studies from Howard University in 2001.
