Courtney Gross

Courtney Gross has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. Courtney has worked as a Researcher and Research Associate at the American Institutes for Research since 2018, where they support the development of the internal AIR Standards and Assessment practice hub and assists with state-level standards and assessment work. Prior to that, they were a Test Development Assistant for NAEP Assessment Operations, where they contributed to content and framework development projects for the National Assessment of Educational Progress.

Before joining AIR, Courtney worked as a Montessori Guide (ELA) and Special Education Teacher at the Wausau School District in 2017-2018. In this role, they created individualized learning plans for students and implemented project-based learning opportunities. Courtney also wrote and implemented IEPs and collaborated with the RtI team for at-risk students.

Courtney also has experience in the international development sector, having served as a Co-Chair on the Gender and Development Volunteer Working Group and a member of the Peace Corps Jamaica - Media Working Group from 2016-2017. During their time in the Peace Corps, they documented volunteer work and created content showcasing community events. Courtney also served as a Primary Literacy Advisor at Pell River Primary School, where they provided one-on-one and small group intervention for low-performing students and collaborated with colleagues on community engagement events.

In addition to their professional experience, Courtney worked as a Writing Consultant at the Black Hills State University Writing Assistance Center from 2012-2015. Courtney also served as an Orientation Leader and AEPP Tutor for the Office of International Relations and Global Engagement from 2013-2014.

Courtney Gross completed their Bachelor's degree in English/Language Arts Teacher Education from Black Hills State University in 2015. In 2014, they briefly attended Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas, studying English Language and Literature/Letters. Recently, from 2019 to 2021, they pursued their Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Maryland.
