Senior Researcher at American Institutes for Research

Marcela Movit has extensive experience in the field of research and education. Marcela has worked as a Senior Researcher at the American Institutes for Research since April 2020, and prior to that, they held the position of Researcher at the same organization from February 2009 to April 2020.

Before joining the American Institutes for Research, Marcela worked as a Technology Program Assistant at the Institute for the Study of Adult Literacy from July 2007 to February 2009. In this role, they formulated policy alternatives, analyzed adult education policies, and created a self-study CD to facilitate the effective use of the state's adult education data management system.

Marcela also has experience working at Penn State University, where they held positions such as Co-Director of the Summer Research Opportunity Program from May 2007 to July 2007 and Graduate Assistant from August 2003 to May 2007. In these roles, they organized professional development opportunities for undergraduate students, conducted data analysis, and managed a team of researchers for qualitative studies.

Additionally, Marcela worked as a Fellow at the League of United Latin American Citizens in May 2004, where they conducted qualitative analysis, prepared reports on education for Hispanic students, and helped establish the organization's education platform.

Marcela Movit has a rich educational background. Marcela first attended Rice University from 1999 to 2002, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Spanish. Marcela then continued their education at the University of Houston from 2002 to 2003, obtaining a Master of Education degree with a focus on Bilingual Education. Their educational journey culminated at Penn State University from 2003 to 2007, where they completed their Ph.D. in Education Theory & Policy.
