Mark Hatcher has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and organizations. Mark began their career as a Deputy Chief Financial Officer at UNC Association of Student Governments in 2011, eventually moving up to the position of Chief Financial Officer from 2012 to 2013. In 2013, they worked as an Intern at the North Carolina Department of State Treasurer. From 2011 to 2014, Mark served as a Resident Advisor at East Carolina University. In 2014, they joined NC State University as a Residence Director, also working as a Research Assistant in 2015. During the same year, they were an Intern at Duke University. In 2015, they had a brief stint as a Research Intern at Progress North Carolina/ProgressNC Action. Mark then worked at George Mason University as an Academic Advisor from 2016 to 2018, and also held the position of Adjunct Faculty in 2017. Currently, they are employed as a Research Associate at the American Institutes for Research since 2018.

Mark Hatcher completed their Bachelor's degrees in Applied Economics and Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting at East Carolina University, where they attended from 2010 to 2014. Subsequently, they pursued a Master's degree in Education with a focus on Higher Education/Higher Education Administration at North Carolina State University from 2014 to 2016.
