Ryan Torbey, Ph.D. has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of computer science education. Ryan has held various roles in both academic and nonprofit organizations.

From 2010 to 2011, Ryan worked as a Marketing Coordinator at TandemSeven. In 2011, they joined Teach for America as a Corps Member and also worked as a Technology Teacher and IT Coordinator at the Bureau of Indian Education during the same period.

In 2014, Ryan started working at Harmony Public Schools in Texas as a Technology Teacher and Austin District Department Head. Ryan remained in this role until 2017.

Ryan then took on multiple roles simultaneously. From 2017 to 2021, they worked as a CS Fundamentals & CS Discoveries Facilitator at Code.org, conducting teacher professional development for their curriculum offerings. Ryan also worked as a Managing Director & Computer Science Education Consultant at Code in Common LLC, where they focused on supporting teachers, schools, and districts in teaching computer science and growing computer science pathways.

From 2018 to 2021, Ryan worked at the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) as a Project Specialist. Here, they coordinated the Accelerating Women's Success and Mastery in Computer Science (AWSM in CS) for the WeTeach_CS program. This program aimed to tackle female underrepresentation in computer science.

In 2021, Ryan became a Regional Manager for the Microsoft TEALS Program, working in collaboration with Microsoft through DISYS. Ryan managed the program at the regional level until June 2022.

Currently, Ryan is a Researcher in Computer Science Education at the American Institutes for Research, where they focus on furthering research in this field.

In addition to their organizational roles, Ryan co-founded CS4TX in 2015, an organization dedicated to increasing computer science education in Texas schools. Ryan stepped back from their leadership role in 2022 when they moved away from Texas.

Ryan Torbey, Ph.D. has a strong educational background in the field of education. Ryan obtained their Bachelor's Degree in Marketing & English Double Major from Tulane University - A.B. Freeman School of Business in 2009. After that, they pursued a Master's Degree in K-8 Education at The University of New Mexico from 2011 to 2013. Ryan'spassion for education led him to pursue a Ph.D. in STEM Education at The University of Texas at Austin from 2017 to 2021.

In addition to their academic achievements, Ryan Torbey has also earned several certifications. Ryan is certified as a Computer Science 8-12 teacher and is also certified as an EC-6 and 4-8 Generalist. Furthermore, they hold a Technology Applications K-12 certification, demonstrating their expertise in integrating technology into the classroom.
