Sarah Buchanan Pedersen has extensive work experience in the field of research and policy. Sarah currently holds the position of Senior Researcher at the American Institutes for Research since January 2022. Prior to this, they worked at IMPAQ International, starting as a Market Volunteer at Community CROPS in May 2006. Sarah then worked as a TESOL Tutor Volunteer at Northeast Family Center, a Volunteer Coordinator Assistant at Friendship Home, and a Natural Resource Management Volunteer at the Peace Corps. Following that, they served as a Policy Intern at the DC Coalition Against Domestic Violence and a Research and Policy Intern at the National Research Center for Women & Families. Sarah also gained experience as a Research and Teaching Assistant at the University of Maryland. At IMPAQ International, Sarah held various roles, including Research Analyst, Senior Research Analyst, Research Associate, and Senior Research Associate. Their tenure at IMPAQ International lasted from June 2012 to January 2022. Overall, Sarah has a diverse background in research, policy, and community service.

Sarah Buchanan Pedersen completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology/Anthropology and Theatre Arts from Nebraska Wesleyan University, where they studied from 2003 to 2007. Sarah further pursued their education at the University of Maryland and obtained a Master of Public Policy degree, specializing in Social Policy, from 2010 to 2012.
