Dr. Mel Michelle Lewis

Vice President, People, Justice, And Cultural Affairs at American Rivers

Dr. Mel Michelle Lewis currently serves as Vice President for People, Justice, and Cultural Affairs at American Rivers and Vice President for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice. In addition, Dr. Lewis is a Collaborator and DEIJ & Creative Arts Consultant at The Art of Change Agency and has been an author and interdisciplinary artist since 1995. Previous roles include Chair of Humanistic Studies, Ecosystems Sustainability, and Justice at the Maryland Institute College of Art, where Dr. Lewis was also the Founding Co-Director of The Space for Creative Black Imagination, and Director and Associate Professor at Goucher College's Center for Geographies of Justice, focusing on Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and Africana Studies. Furthermore, Dr. Lewis held a directorship position in Ethnic Studies at Saint Mary's College of California.
