Chazeman Jackson

Senior Director, Diversity, Equity, And Inclusion at American Society of Human Genetics

Chazeman Jackson, PhD, MA has a diverse work experience spanning several organizations and roles. Starting in 2004, they worked as a Biologist at the National Science Foundation, where they provided administrative and scientific support for various genetics and molecular biology programs. From 2007 to 2010, they served as a Graduate Research Assistant at the National Human Genome Center at Howard University, conducting molecular genetic research on health disparities. In 2009, they participated in the Mirzayan Science and Technology Graduate Policy Fellowship program at The National Academies, contributing to the U.S. science and technology policy process.

In 2010, Jackson joined Trinity Washington University as an Adjunct Professor, teaching health science courses to pre-nursing undergraduate students. During the same period, they also served as Vice President of the Tougaloo College National Alumni Association. In 2012, Jackson transitioned to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, where they held the position of Health Science Advisor until 2016. In this role, they provided policy and research expertise to the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Minority Health and managed public health initiatives.

From 2016 to 2020, Jackson worked at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as a Senior Science Policy Analyst and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Portfolio Lead. In this capacity, they advised on biomedical research and science policy matters, developed and directed health science research projects, and fostered collaborations with NIH.

Currently, Jackson is employed as the Senior Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the American Society of Human Genetics. This position, which they have held since October 2020, involves overseeing efforts to promote diversity, inclusion, and equity within the society.

Throughout their career, Jackson has demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing science, influencing policy, and addressing health disparities through their roles in academia, government, and professional organizations.

Chazeman Jackson, PhD, MA obtained their BA in Humanities with an emphasis in Philosophy from Tougaloo College in 2001. Following this, they attended American University where they earned their MA in Biology from 2001 to 2004. Their education journey continued at Howard University, where they pursued a PhD in Medical Microbiology from 2005 to 2010.
