Software Engineer III at AMPLY Power

Alec Ferguson is a seasoned software engineer with a diverse range of experience in various industries. Alec started their career in 2007 as a Tutor at College Track, where they provided academic support to underprivileged students and assisted with the college application process. In 2008, they worked as a Client Services Coordinator at DMA, where they were responsible for office organization and managing calendars.

Alec then transitioned to teaching English, starting as an English Teacher at Avalon English Academy from 2008 to 2009. Alec taught English expression, formal writing, and speaking, and eventually took on the role of teaching high-level students. Following this, they worked as an English Teacher at Gungnae Middle School in South Korea from 2009 to 2010. In this role, they designed interactive curriculum and exposed students to American culture.

In 2010, Alec shifted their focus back to the software industry, joining Acuitus as a Student Tester. Alec tested educational software and reported bugs while providing feedback on content. Alec continued at Acuitus as a Software QA Engineer from 2011 to 2012, where they tested educational software for functionality and proposed design changes to improve usability.

From 2012 to 2021, Alec worked at Credit Karma in various software engineering roles. Alec started as a QA Engineer, testing features for programmatic functionality and reporting bugs. Alec then transitioned to a Software Engineer in Test role, developing extensive Selenium Webdriver tests and using best practices like the page object model and consistent data setup. Finally, they served as a Senior Software Engineer, working on building an OpenResty network edge reverse proxy and developing the GraphQL implementation.

In 2018, Alec joined Sunrun as a Senior Software Engineer. Here, they designed and built large-scale data ingestion and aggregation pipelines for solar and storage assets. Alec utilized various Google Cloud technologies such as Dataflow, BigQuery, and Pub/Sub. Alec also implemented major features like a websocket connector for Apache Beam.

Following their time at Sunrun, Alec worked at LevelTen Energy as a Senior Software Engineer from 2022 to 2023. During this tenure, they leveraged their expertise to contribute to the development of the company's software.

Currently, Alec is employed at bp pulse fleet (formerly AMPLY Power) as a Software Engineer III. Alec is focused on streaming data pipelines in Flink and modernizing the real-time data backend.

Throughout their career, Alec has demonstrated proficiency in various programming languages and technologies, including Kotlin/Java, Ruby, TypeScript, Lua, and various cloud platforms like Google Cloud and AWS. Their experience spans across different domains, from software testing and quality assurance to data engineering and software development.

Alec Ferguson obtained a B.A. in Economics from Lewis & Clark College, where they studied from 2003 to 2007. Alec later pursued a Graduate Certificate in Electrical Engineering at Santa Clara University from 2011 to 2012.
