Job description

Amyris is seeking a Facilities Engineer I to help create and maintain utility systems, process systems and equipment for overall operations needs. This position is located onsite in Emeryville, CA. 

Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with the Pilot Plant personnel, Critical Systems personnel, Project Engineers, R&D personnel, and engineering consultants to properly size utility and/or process systems and equipment to support assigned projects.
  • Provides on the floor technical troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Help develop and maintain SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
  • Ensures that new system designs are in accordance with relevant industry and site standards.
  • Assist in creation of bid packages for utility system equipment, including but not limited to answering requests for information, prepare of requisitions and supports Purchasing through the procurement process.
  • Generates formal risk assessments, as necessary, to support key project decisions.
  • Analyze, design, develop, improve, and maintain operating mechanical processes to safely function within process specifications.
  • Initiating the engineering document change management process, as well as verifying the completion of the procedure that places all As-Built P&IDs in the Engineering Document Management System.
  • Assist in evaluating mechanical, thermal, and electromechanical systems by applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer, and materials of construction.
  • Ensure system quality and reliability by assisting in designing test procedures and coordinate testing.
  • Assist in conducting technical reviews of process requirements, specifications, codes, and design.
  • Provides technical and engineering information about utilities to other functions on the site.
  • Develops technical reports, papers, and presentations.
  • Manage Small Utility Projects to ensure maximum maintainability, and functionality to support Operations.
  • Assist in maintenance activities and ensure that maintenance is conducted in accordance with PM checklist and schedule.
  • Complies with requirements from Safety Program, including Health and Safety mandates and OSHA requirements.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or facilities management.
  • Experience creating reports and giving presentations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 1+ years of relevant experience in a biotech, pharmaceutical, or chemical manufacturing environment.
  • 1+ years of hands-on experience with process manufacturing equipment and utilities system/equipment (e.g., Pumps, Motors, Filtrations, Tanks, RODI, Plant steam, HVAC, Compressed Gases, Chillers).

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required stand, walk, crawl through low spaces, and climb ladders throughout the day.
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
