What’s the Opportunity?

Anchor QEA is seeking a full-time, mid-level geotechnical / coastal engineer with 5 to 10+ years of experience with a strong background in developing and overseeing geotechnical engineering studies and designs, particularly in the coastal and marine environments. The position presents an opportunity for the candidate to expand their leadership and management responsibilities and apply their engineering experience to challenging new technical problems. The candidate will work directly with senior company staff and will supervise other technical team members on the planning, design, and construction of water resources, dredging, and coastal restoration projects. While the position will be based in California, our geotechnical and coastal engineering teams regularly support projects throughout the U.S.

The selected candidate will have a B.S. (M.S. preferred) degree in geotechnical, civil or coastal engineering and a demonstrated proficiency in performing high-quality project work, including oversight of geotechnical field investigation programs (borings, CPTs, etc.), completing and overseeing technical analyses (particularly when dealing with nearshore/offshore sediments), and preparing technical documents (reports, project specifications).

Responsibilities:

  • Developing and executing field investigation and laboratory testing plans at upland and in-water project sites (position may require travel and/or field work for up to approximately 20-30%, depending on project needs; actual amount of time will vary over the course of a year)
  • Preparing qualitative and quantitative analyses of geotechnical data, including slope stability analyses, settlement evaluations, seismic deformation analyses, finite element modeling, foundation and retaining structure design
  • Technical writing to support the preparation of sampling and analysis plans, geotechnical reports, remedial investigation and feasibility study reports, and design documents, including technical specifications
  • Project and task management of waterfront, dredging, water resources, and restoration projects
  • Preparing design documents, specifications, cost estimates, and engineering calculations for waterfront, dredging, water resources, and restoration projects
  • Working with others to develop new clients, identify project opportunities, prepare proposals, and capture new work
  • Identifying strategic teaming partners and mentoring junior level staff

What Are We Looking For?

Ideal candidates will have the following:

  • B.S. degree from an accredited program in Civil Engineering (with a geotechnical focus) or Coastal Engineering (a M.S. degree is preferred)
  • 5 to 10+ years of experience with geotechnical studies and design of projects located within nearshore and aquatic environments
  • Ability to work within multidisciplinary groups and collaborate with planners, landscape architects and other engineering disciplines Professional services experience is desired
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Critical thinking and strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to pursue Professional Engineering (PE) licensure within one year
  • Ability to travel for field and/or construction projects (may be up to 30%, depending on project needs)

Salary and Other Compensation:

  • Salary Range:  $104,000 - $124,000 annually
  • Annual Bonus
  • Other potential bonus types: Billable Time Bonus, Spot Bonus, Milestone Anniversary Bonus, Receiving Professional License/Certification Bonus, Peer-reviewed Publication Bonus, Employee Referral Bonus.

Base Level Benefits for Regular Full-Time Positions:
