Job description

About AngelList:

We exist to accelerate innovation by increasing the number of successful startups in the world. We want to give more people the opportunity to participate in the venture economy by building the financial infrastructure that makes it possible for more people to invest in world changing startups, and build tools for startups that help them run their operations so they can focus on building.

AngelList is the nexus of venture capital and the startup community. We support over $124B+ assets on our platform, and we’ve driven capital to over 12,000 startups, almost 282 of which are unicorns. 57% of top-tier U.S. VC deals involve investors on AngelList.

While our scale is large, our ambitions are even larger – we’re innovating on the financial infrastructure for venture investors and the startups they invest in. Come build with us.

About the Role:

We’re looking to hire our first in-house communications professional to establish the communications function at AngelList.   Our community consists of startup founders, fund managers, and both individual and institutional investors. We started by building a platform that makes forming and managing venture funds a breeze for both fund managers and investors. Now we’re launching full-stack solutions that get founders started, from incorporation and equity management to banking, while also giving more people the opportunity to participate in the venture economy. This role will report directly into our CEO.

You will:

  • Define the purpose and value of AngelList communications as a function and set comms objectives that advance top-level company goals
  • Partner with the leadership team to shape our core narratives and draft top-level key messaging
  • Develop internal communications plans and strategies that build trust and alignment on company culture, values, vision, and AngelList’s business goals
  • Utilize company data to establish AngelList as a leading, authoritative voice on topics related to the economy, venture capital, and entrepreneurship
  • Build and facilitate strong relationships between AngelList and key national, tech, and business reporters, and drive mainstream awareness of important business milestones, our mission and brand, product suite, and other work among the greater tech, startup, and investor communities
  • Create owned channel content strategies that promote our products, and advance our reputation as a uniquely well-positioned company across the entire venture and startup ecosystem

You have:

  • 10-12 years of experience, preferably with work history in-house at a fast-growing startup
  • Proven experience working with press and a portfolio of story placements across national, technology, and business news outlets
  • Expertise in the evolving nature of communications work beyond media relations, from thought leadership to social media, paid placements, and other visibility programs
  • An ability to make otherwise complicated topics super easy-to-understand
  • Curiosity and a command of data and how it can be used to uncover insights that advance company narratives
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • An ownership mindset, and the ability to work creatively and autonomously in a fast-changing environment
