James Gaines

James Gaines is an accomplished science journalist and board member of the Northwest Science Writers Association, currently serving as president while leading one of the oldest science writing communities in the United States. With a diverse professional background, Gaines has worked as a researcher for Annual Reviews, where fact-checking and writing for Knowable Magazine are key responsibilities. As a self-employed freelance science journalist, Gaines has contributed to prominent publications such as Atlas Obscura and Nature. Previous roles include leading science coverage at Upworthy, interning at Guardian News & Media and BBC, and holding multiple positions at Genelex focusing on marketing content and internal communications.
