Applied Pharmaceutical Innovation (API) brings life-saving research to the real world by helping life science innovators bridge the gap between academic research and commercial product development. We are seeking a VP, Shared Services. Reporting to the CEO, the VP, Shared Services is an integral part of the leadership team at API responsible for the developing, implementing, leading, and maintaining organization-wide functions such as finance, HR, building services, operations & project management, and IT. Working with the CEO, the successful candidate will ensure API’s non-regulated business processes and operations run seamlessly. The role will also be critical to ensure strong integration between API’s broad operations and its technical teams conducting Health Canada/FDA/EMA regulated work led by the VP, Technical Operations & Quality.

API is a rapidly growing and complex organization navigating the transition from a small to medium sized organization. While it is a not-for-profit, API conducts considerable B2B commercial fee-for-service work. In addition, API is undertaking a $130M+ capital project and currently operates over 120,000 square feet of incubation, lab, and office space across four sites. The VP, Shared Services should be comfortable developing and implementing strategies to manage large, complex, and varied revenues and expenditures.

Key Responsibilities, include but are not limited to:

Qualifications - (Education, Certification, Degree, Skills, Knowledge, etc.)

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a preference given to advanced education in Finance and Accounting, Operations Management.

Experience:

  • 10 years progressive senior experience leading finance and/or operations, preferably in a rapidly scaling or medium-sized B2B company, and ideally have a CPA or expert-level competencies with financial systems, projections, and reporting.

  • The successful candidate should be a highly strategic thinker with the ability to see the big picture, identify novel tactics and strategies to empower API to continually improve its ability to move quickly, adapt to new opportunities, and maintain its strong foundations.
  • They should be compassionate, innovative, and laser focused on making a big impact; excited by the opportunity to build something and enjoy being hands-on with the ability to keep many balls in the air.
  • They don’t need to be an expert in everything, but they need to be excited to learn, and a quick intuitive thinker.

Working Conditions

  • Required travel between Edmonton API sites.
  • This position requires you to be on site.
