Omar Alkhatib, Ph.D., has a diverse range of work experience. Their most recent role is as a Senior Scientist II at Arctoris, starting in May 2023. Prior to that, they worked at Engitix Therapeutics as a Drug Discovery Scientist III from March 2022 to April 2023. In this role, they managed a project to acquire a fully automated lab workflow and led an automation superuser team.
Before Engitix Therapeutics, Dr. Alkhatib held positions at LabGenius, AstraZeneca, Artios Pharma Ltd, King's College London, Schlumberger, and Saudi Aramco. At LabGenius, they served as an HTS Senior Scientist and HTS Scientist, where they developed preclinical HTS antibody profiling assays and contributed to the development of AI software for drug discovery.
During their time at AstraZeneca, Dr. Alkhatib worked as a Research Scientist in Mechanistic Biology and Profiling. Omar led efforts to purchase new compound screening technology, collaborated with colleagues and service providers to improve biochemical assay screening, and presented their work to executive directors and associate directors.
At Artios Pharma Ltd, Dr. Alkhatib was a Scientist responsible for building mechanism of action studies and developing preclinical assays for oncology targets. Their work was published in the journal of Nature Communications and led to the initiation of clinical trials for a lead candidate.
Dr. Alkhatib also has experience in academia as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at King's College London, where they supervised undergraduate projects, led tutorial sessions, and organized practicals for postgraduate students. Additionally, they gained industry experience during their placements at AstraZeneca and Schlumberger, where they focused on biochemical assay development and crude oil sample analysis, respectively. Moreover, they served as a Teacher's Assistant and Events and Activities Coordinator at Saudi Aramco, where they assisted in delivering English classes, mentored students, and organized sports activities and school plays.
Omar Alkhatib, Ph.D. has a diverse education history. Omar earned their Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Sciences (Pharmacology) with Management from The University of Edinburgh in 2015. Omar then pursued a Master's Degree in Drug Discovery Skills at King's College London, which they completed in 2016. Following this, they continued their studies at King's College London and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Neuroscience in 2020.
In 2021, Omar enrolled at Wharton Online and earned a Certificate in Strategic Management: Competitive Advantage. Omar also pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree at the Quantic School of Business and Technology, and they are expected to complete it in 2023.
Apart from their formal education, Omar holds additional certifications. In 2015, they obtained the ASPA 1986 Personal Licence from the UK Home Office. Furthermore, in 2022, they became an Alumni Volunteer at King's College London.
