Effendi Ortiz-Toro

Effendi Ortiz-Toro has a vast amount of experience in the pharmaceutical and medical sales industry. They currently hold the position of Midwest Area Business Director and Northwest/Central Lead at Ardelyx, Inc., a role they have held since 2022. Prior to this, they worked at Ultragenyx Pharmaceutical Inc. from 2017 to 2021, where they served as the National Field Director for the Metabolic Division for Long Chain-Fatty Acid Oxidation Disorders and later as a Regional Director.

From 2014 to 2017, Effendi worked at Shire Rare Disease as the Midwest Zone Director, leading a team of 9 Regional Business Managers responsible for the sales and marketing of specific medications. They also held the position of Senior Regional Business Manager and North Zone Trainer at the same company from 2010 to 2014.

Effendi's earlier experience includes roles at UCB Pharma as an Immunology Sales Specialist from 2007 to 2009, Biogen Idec as an Area Business Manager in 2007-2008, Genzyme as a Regional Business Director from 2000 to 2007, and Centocor as an Immunology Sales Specialist in 1998-2000. They began their career at Sanofi (Rhone-Poulenc Rorer) as a CSS in 1990 and remained with the company until 1998.

Effendi Ortiz-Toro obtained a Bachelor's degree in Biology, General from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras, completing the program between 1981 and 1985.
