Vael Gates

Founder at Arkose

Vael Gates is the founder of Arkose, a nonprofit focused on reducing risks from advanced AI. Prior to founding Arkose, Vael worked as part of the AI Safety Team at BlueDot Impact and as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Stanford University, focusing on AI research. Vael holds a PhD in Neuroscience (Computational Cognitive Science) from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master's Degree in Biological Sciences (Psychology) from the University of Cambridge. During Vael's time at Cambridge, they conducted research on learning and experience with structured visual stimuli. Before their graduate studies, Vael worked as an Undergraduate Lab Research Assistant at Prof. Bevil Conway's Lab, studying color vision in humans and macaque monkeys.
