Magda Barbu

Vice President Of Research at Armata Pharmaceuticals

Magda Barbu has over 20 years of work experience in various roles related to research and biotechnology. Magda started their career in 1997 at OMV Petrom Oil Company as a Biotechnology Researcher. After five years, they joined Texas A&M Health Science Center as a Postdoctoral Associate. In 2008, they became a Postdoctoral Fellow at MD Anderson Cancer Center, where they worked for five years. In 2013, Magda joined Synthetic Genomics as a Scientist II and later became the Engineered Virus-based Therapeutics Lead. Magda'smost recent role before their current position was at Armata Pharmaceuticals, Inc., where they served as the Senior Director of Synthetic Biology and then was promoted to Vice President of Research in 2018.

Magda Barbu pursued their higher education from 2002 to 2008 at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston). During this time, they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics/ Biochemistry.
