Maria Bertelli

Strategic Business Development Director at ASM Global

Maria Bertelli has had a diverse range of work experiences, starting in 2001 as a professional volleyball player for the Asterix Kieldrecht Volleyball Club in Belgium. Maria then transitioned to a role as a Leisure & Project Management Consultant at PMP Consultancy from 2002 to 2006, where they worked on various projects in the sport and leisure industry.

In 2007, Maria joined the British Volleyball Federation as a full-time Team GB athlete, representing Great Britain and participating in the London 2012 Olympics. During this time, they also played professionally across Europe and achieved significant success, helping the team reach 9th place and improve their world ranking.

From 2012 to 2021, Maria took on multiple roles simultaneously. Maria became the President of the Volleyball England Schools & Youth Commission at Volleyball England, providing strategic direction and leadership. At the same time, they worked as a Director at Consultancy Services, offering project management, procurement, funding, and delivery solutions to public and private sector clients in the music, entertainment, sport, leisure, and cultural industries.

In 2012, Maria also became an Athlete Mentor for the Youth Sport Trust's Sky Sports Living for Sport scheme. Their role involved inspiring and educating secondary school children through sport.

Most recently, Maria has joined ASM Global in 2021 as the Commercial Projects Manager, Europe. Maria is responsible for managing commercial projects and has now been promoted to the role of Strategic Business Development Director, further expanding their responsibilities within the company.

Maria Bertelli began their education at St Damians RC High School in Ashton Under Lyne, Manchester from 1991 to 1995, where they obtained 11 GCSE's. Maria then attended The Manchester Metropolitan University from 1995 to 1996, although no degree or field of study was specified. Finally, Maria completed their Bachelor of Science (BSc Hons) in Physical Education and Sports Science from Loughborough University from 1996 to 1999.
