Job Description:

As an Astera Labs Field Quality Engineer, you will establish yourself as the champion responsible for quality management to the world’s leading cloud service providers. In this role, you will need to apply your quality experience across four domains:  customer quality (returns root cause analysis and corrective action), supplier quality (audits, yield), new product development (reliability qualifications, design for reliability), and regulatory compliance (ISO, RoHS, conflict materials, safety, exports, electromagnetic interference).  Some international travel required, approximately 15%, but varies based on company needs.

Basic qualifications:

  • Strong academic/technical background in electrical engineering; Bachelor is required; Master is preferred.
  • 5+ Years of experience dealing with customer returns, failure analysis (PCBA or Chip) , Debug.
  • Excellent soft skills with the ability to prioritize a dynamic list of multiple tasks, grow your network, influence without authority, and communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Laboratory skills to diagnose and determine the root cause of the failure. Great initial triage analysis skills using firmware, oscilloscopes and multi-meters.
  • Open-mind behavior and can-do attitude.
  • Fluent in Mandarin and English.

Required experience:

  • Demonstrating excellent skills with data analysis and relationship management.
  • Develop and drive to completion the necessary corrective and preventive actions.
  • Meticulous and detail oriented. Excellent organizational, communication and presentation skills.
  • Quality engineering experience including supplier/customer quality management, managing manufacturing excursions, failure analysis and overall 8D problem solving.
  • Experience with managing quality on PCB (board fab), PCBA (board assembly), and individual semiconductor components.  
  • Python programming. Atlassian toolkit (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket).  CAD layout Tools.
  • Skilled with electrical characterization of faults through schematic / datasheet study, multimeters, oscilloscopes, JTAG / boundary scan, and TDR (time domain reflectometry). 
  • Ability to quickly ramp up on the expert usage of our custom test hardware and software.
  • Electrical characterization followed by fault isolation, imaging, and chemical analysis. Directing the use of techniques like 2D/3D X-ray, acoustic microscopy, Cross-section, SEM, and EDX.
  • Familiar with standards such as IPC, JEDEC, REACH, RoHS, and ISO9001.
