Steven J. Stack

Steven J. Stack, MD, MBA has extensive work experience in the healthcare industry. Steven J. currently serves as the President of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials, where they support the work of state and territorial public health officials and contributes to the development of public health policy. Steven J. previously held the role of President-Elect and Secretary-Treasurer in the same organization.

Dr. Stack was appointed by Governor Andy Beshear as the Commissioner for Public Health and Chief Medical Officer for the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Steven J. also served as a Member of the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure.

In addition, Dr. Stack has worked as an Adjunct Professor at the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee and as an Advisor at Juno Diagnostics. Steven J. also served as the senior advisor at Zoic Capital.

In their earlier career, Dr. Stack worked at TeamHealth as an Emergency Department Medical Director and Staff Physician, overseeing the clinical policies, patient satisfaction, and financial success of multiple emergency departments. Steven J. served as the President of the American Medical Association from 2014 to 2017 and was a principle spokesperson during their tenure.

Dr. Stack also contributed to the World Medical Association as a Council Member, where they worked on global medical ethics, medical professionalism, health equity, and patient well-being. Steven J. served as a Member of the Board of Directors for eHealth Initiative & Foundation and as a Member of various health information technology federal advisory committees, advising the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on health IT matters.

Steven J. Stack, MD, MBA earned their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Classics/Premed from the College of the Holy Cross in 1994. Steven J. then pursued their Doctor of Medicine (MD) from The Ohio State University, completing their studies in 1998. Later on, they attained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee in 2017.
