John Decker

Process Development Scientist at Atom Bioworks

John Decker has over 10 years of experience in the scientific field. In 2012, they began their career as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. During this time, they also served as President of the Undergraduate Neuroscience Society and Editor in Chief of Inquiro. In 2016, they continued their education at Duke University as a Graduate Research Assistant. During this time, they led the development and tech transfer of a bioprocess for a clinical-stage antiviral protein and assisted in the conception and writing of a funded NIH R61-R33 grant for a novel viral diagnostic assay design involving engineered antiviral proteins. In 2022, they joined Atom Bioworks as a Process Development Scientist.

John Decker has a diverse educational background. John obtained their High School Diploma from Bangor Area High School in 2012. Following that, they earned a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience (with a minor in Chemistry) from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2016. In the same year, they also obtained their Private Pilot License (ASEL) from the Federal Aviation Administration. In 2012, they completed a course in Protecting Human Research Participants from the National Institutes of Health Office of Extramural Research. Currently, John is pursuing their Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Engineering at Duke University, which they are expected to complete in 2022.
