Jaco Botha

Jaco Botha has extensive experience in software engineering and technical leadership roles. Jaco is currently the Director of Backend Engineering at Backbase, where they oversee engineering principles and strategic designs for the Backbase platform. Jaco collaborates with various teams to ensure technical decisions align with customer expectations and are delivered on time. Previously, they worked as a Lead Principal Software Engineer, playing a key role in defining and driving technical vision in the customer engagement value stream.

Before joining Backbase, Jaco co-founded DevOptix and worked as a Co-Founder. Jaco also worked as a Senior Software Engineer at Bank Mendes Gans, where they contributed to the modernization of the company's Netting product using cutting-edge technologies.

Jaco's previous experience includes roles at Deloitte Digital, where they served as a Senior Consultant and was responsible for building a Cloud-based digital lending system for a major bank. Jaco also worked as an Executive at BBD Software BV and held multiple positions at Backbase, including Principal Software Architect and Senior Technical Architect.

Earlier in their career, Jaco worked as a Technical Lead and Senior Software Engineer at Vodacom, where they managed teams and delivered systems for online portals and mobile apps. Jaco also gained experience as a Software Engineer at Online Intelligence Ltd and as an IT Consultant at Ocean Crest Trading (75) (PTY) Ltd.

Throughout their career, Jaco has demonstrated expertise in driving technology innovation, leading development activities, and designing web-based architectures. Jaco is skilled in a variety of technologies and has experience in project management and delivery.

Jaco Botha holds a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Systems from Heriot-Watt University, which was obtained from 2009 to 2012. Jaco also has a Higher National Diploma in Information Technology from the London School of Business and Management, earned from 2010 to 2011. Additionally, Jaco obtained a Diploma in Information Technology from the same institution in 2009 to 2010. Jaco also holds a certification as a Backbase Certified Backend Developer from Backbase, obtained in 2017.
