Barrington Stage Company, an award-winning professional theatre company located in the heart of the Berkshires, is seeking a Scenic Artist to join our team in Pittsfield, MA. This position assists with the scenic painting for productions on our Boyd-Quinson Stage, and St Germain Stage. This position requires a skilled artist with knowledge of paint techniques and the willingness to work as part of a team and follow through on individual projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with the Charge Scenic Artist to accurately execute the artistic designs through high quality scenic painting for all of BSC’s 2024 season’s productions

  • Paint and/or texture scenery, drops and props as assigned by the Charge Scenic Artist

  • Maintain paint shop tools and equipment, to ensure they are in safe and proper working order and  properly cleaned and put away

  • Keep the paint shop and storage areas clean and free of debris and wipe up any spills/drips, and be aware of overspray as to not damage any other items or infrastructure

  • Arrive on time and ready to work, and follow all health and safety guidelines in place

  • Attend shop meetings as required

Skills:

  • Working knowledge of painting and texturing techniques and materials including wood graining, faux marbling, photo-realistic, stenciling, large scale drop painting and foam carving

  • Working knowledge of shop tools and equipment

  • Ability to read blueprints and follow directions

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Adobe Acrobat

This position reports to the Charge Scenic Artist. It is a full-time, seasonal position.

Pay is $17.50 an hour, with housing included.
