Hui Wu

Principal Scientist at Beam

Hui Wu has over 20 years of experience in the biotechnology industry, with a focus on viral vector production for gene therapy. They began their career at Millennium Pharmaceuticals, where they worked as a Senior Research Associate, developing and implementing cell-based assays for protein expression and compound screening. They then joined Genzyme, where they served as a Scientist and later as a Scientist I, specializing in lentiviral gene therapy and working on assay development and cell line characterization. They also played a leading role in the development of a rat model for diabetic neuropathy. After their time at Genzyme, Wu moved to Voyager Therapeutics as a Scientist and then Scientist II, managing a small group in AAV production, optimizing production processes, and evaluating cell culture media. Currently, Wu is employed at Beam Therapeutics, where they have held roles as a Senior Scientist, Senior Scientist II, and Principal Scientist. In these positions, Wu has established and improved lentivirus and AAV production systems, developed assays for lentivirus quality and quantity, and established scalable production processes.

Hui Wu has a Master's Degree in Ocular Pathology from Qingdao Medical School. They also hold a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree in Medicine from the same institution. In addition, Hui Wu has obtained a certification in "Executive Presence on Video Conference Calls" from LinkedIn in 2020.
