Alasdair Cathcart

President, Oil, Gas & Chemicals at Bechtel

Alasdair Cathcart is president of Bechtel’s Oil, Gas & Chemicals business, headquartered in Houston. He was elected a senior vice president in 2007 and a director of the Bechtel Group board in 2016.

Alasdair has more than 29 years of experience in engineering, procurement, construction, business development, and executive leadership on five continents and across multiple industries— oil, gas & chemicals, power, civil infrastructure, and mining and metals.

Before being elected president of the Oil, Gas & Chemicals business, Cathcart served as general manager of the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) business line, responsible for LNG’s global strategy, execution, and development.

Previously, he served in executive management and operations roles across Bechtel: operations manager of LNG in Australia, president of Bechtel’s Power business, president of Power’s Fossil business line, and president of Bechtel Construction Operations. Alasdair served as project manager on the High Speed 1 rail project in England, project director on the Croatian Motorway project, and project director on the Elm Road Generation Station project in Wisconsin.

Alasdair joined Bechtel’s Civil business in 1989, and has served the company in a variety of engineering, construction, and leadership positions both in corporate and project roles in nine countries. He served as executive assistant to Bechtel’s president and chief operating officer.

Alasdair earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Heriot-Watt University in Scotland, and is a chartered professional civil engineer at the UK Institution of Civil Engineers.
