The Revenue Accountant will play a critical role in performing the accounting for various revenue streams, including subscription-based, transaction-based, and professional services revenue, and performing day-to-day billing operations. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with hands-on experience in revenue recognition and a proactive approach to problem-solving. The ideal candidate will excel in a fast-paced environment and be adept at working with multiple stakeholders to ensure accurate financial reporting.

What you'll do: 

  • Billing Operations: Execute the day-to-day billing processes for subscription, transaction-based, and professional services revenue. Ensure accurate and timely invoicing, including processing invoice, handling billing adjustments, processing credit memos, and inputting opportunities into relevant billing systems.
  • Revenue Recognition: Apply revenue recognition principles (e.g., ASC 606) to ensure proper allocation and recognition of revenue for different streams. Generate and validate revenue entries to ensure compliance with accounting standards.
  • Invoice Management: Handle the preparation, distribution, and reconciliation of invoices. Resolve any discrepancies or issues related to billing and ensure accurate financial records.
  • Credit Memos: Manage the creation, approval, and processing of credit memos. Ensure all credit adjustments are properly documented and reconciled.
  • Revenue Reporting: Prepare detailed revenue reports and summaries, providing insights into billing performance and revenue trends. Assist with month-end and quarter-end close activities.
  • Transaction Processing: Review and record transaction-based revenue, ensuring all transactions are properly documented and accounted for.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and recommend improvements to billing and revenue recognition processes. Implement best practices to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, including Sales, Customer Success, and Finance, to address billing-related inquiries and resolve any issues. Provide support and information as needed to facilitate smooth operations.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and internal policies. Assist with audits and provide necessary documentation and support.

What you'll bring to the team: 

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or equivalent certification is a plus but not required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in revenue accounting or billing, preferably within a SaaS environment. Hands-on experience with subscription-based, transaction-based, and professional services revenue preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of revenue recognition principles (e.g., ASC 606). Experience with accounting software and billing systems.
  • Bonus Skills: Familiarity with partnership revenue accounting, stand-alone selling price calculations, and managing credit memos.
  • Personal Attributes: Self-starter with strong attention to detail. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach.
