James Butler

Dr. Butler has extensive experience in intellectual property acquisition and strategy across a variety of industries. Before joining BioAtla in 2016, Dr. Butler was Vice President of Legal Affairs and Intellectual Property at Sapphire Energy, Inc. Prior to that, Dr. Butler was Senior Director of Patents at Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc. where he managed world-wide patent prosecution. Dr. Butler has additional experience as a patent attorney at Diversa Corp., Torrey Mesa Research Institute (Syngenta) and in private practice at Senniger Powers in St. Louis, MO. Prior to starting his legal career, Dr. Butler was a post-doctoral fellow at Harvard Medical School and an Associate Professor of Animal and Veterinary Science at the University of Idaho. Dr. Butler holds a Ph.D. in Physiology from the University of California, Davis and a J.D. from the University of Idaho.
