Lisa Kirkland

Lisa Kirkland has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Lisa started their career as a Customer Service Officer at The Reject Shop in 2004 before moving on to become a Duty Manager at Pumpkin Patch in 2006. In 2010, they worked as a Laboratory Technician and Sample Processor at SA Pathology as part of a university placement.

Starting from 2012, Lisa pursued their academic and research career. Lisa completed their PhD in Aquatic Bacteria and Virioplankton at Flinders University, focusing on the distribution and composition of these microbial communities. During this time, they also worked as a Practical Demonstrator.

After completing their PhD, Lisa joined Seeley International Pty Ltd in 2015 as an Analytical Microbiologist, where they worked until 2019. In parallel, they also held roles at Flinders University as a Post Doctoral Research Fellow and later as an Adjunct Academic.

In 2019, Lisa joined BiomeBank as a Sample Scientist, where they worked closely with gastroenterologists to establish and maintain Australia's first public stool bank. Their responsibilities included conducting research on the gut microbiome and exploring the potential of faecal microbiota transplant therapy for treating diseases.

Lisa's role at BiomeBank evolved over time, and they held multiple positions in the company. Lisa served as the Head of Laboratory Development in early 2019 before becoming the Laboratory Manager for Research and Development later that year. From 2020 to 2021, they took on the role of Deputy Manager Quality Assurance. Currently, Lisa holds the position of Head of Cultured Therapies at BiomeBank, where they continue to make valuable contributions.

Lisa Kirkland completed their education at various institutions. Lisa started in 2002 at Siena College in South Australia, where they completed their Year 12 tertiary education. From 2008 to 2010, Lisa attended Flinders University and received their Bachelor of Health Science with a specialization in Life Sciences. In 2011, they pursued an Honours degree in Environmental Microbial Ecology at Flinders University. Finally, from 2012 to 2015, Lisa obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Environmental Microbial Ecology at Flinders University.
