David Wood

David Wood has a diverse work experience spanning a range of engineering and teaching roles. David is currently working at BioScout as the Device Engineering Lead since October 2021. Prior to that, they worked at Ocular Robotics Limited for a significant period, starting as a Senior Product Development Engineer from September 2011 to September 2013, and later becoming the Lead Engineer/CTO from September 2013 to September 2021. In these roles, they were responsible for product development, electronics design, embedded systems design, programming, API creation, and customer-specific application development. David also had marketing responsibilities for the new products.

Before joining Ocular Robotics, David founded and worked as the Principal Engineer at DKW Engineering Services from November 2010 to November 2018, where they provided contracting consultant engineering services across various domains, including embedded and software solutions. David also provided technical solutions for clients and acted as a consulting creative scientist for a fiction author.

David has academic experience as well, having worked as a Lecturer at the University of Sydney from February 2013 to January 2016 and from January to December 2011. David also served as a Research Engineer and Head Tutor at the university from March 2010 to December 2011 and from March 2006 to July 2009, respectively. In these roles, they contributed to teaching, course management, and assignment design in the field of mechatronic engineering.

In the early stages of their career, David worked as a Project Engineer/Installer at the Australian Center for Field Robotics from March 2005 to July 2009. David also held positions as an Electronics Engineer at Rojone/EzyTrak Pty Ltd from November 2004 to February 2005 and as a Junior Project Engineer at Crane Aluminium Extrusions from November 2003 to February 2004.

David Wood has a strong education background in the field of robotics and technology. David completed their Bachelor of Engineering (Hons 1) in Mechatronics from the University of Sydney, which they pursued from 2001 to 2004. Following this, they went on to earn their PhD in Human-Robot Interaction and Machine Learning from the same University, graduating in 2011.
