Fitz Sturgill

Associate Director, Scientist at BioXcel Therapeutics

Fitz Sturgill has extensive work experience in the field of neuroscience and research. From 2003 to 2009, Fitz worked as a Graduate Student at Harvard Medical School, where they conducted research on the activity-dependent regulation of synaptic transmission by the metabolic sensor, AMPK. During this time, Fitz made significant discoveries and collaborated with other researchers.

From 2010 to 2015, Fitz worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of California San Diego. Here, they focused on projects related to the regulation of cortical odor responses by somatostatin interneurons and cortical feedback modulation of odor responses in the olfactory bulb. Fitz used optogenetic tagging and developed mathematical models to understand the role of interneurons in modulating firing rates.

Between 2015 and 2021, Fitz worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. In this role, Fitz designed and developed innovative tools for studying neuromodulatory centers during learning. They also managed collaborations with other laboratories and mentored students.

In 2021, Fitz joined Noetic Foundry as a Preclinical Consultant, where they provided expertise in preclinical research.

Currently, Fitz is working as an Associate Director, Scientist at BioXcel Therapeutics, Inc. Their role involves leading scientific projects and contributing to the development of therapeutic approaches.

Overall, Fitz Sturgill's work experience demonstrates a strong background in neuroscience research, with a focus on understanding the mechanisms underlying synaptic transmission, neural circuitry, and the modulation of odor responses.

Fitz Sturgill's education history begins in 1997 when they enrolled at Davidson College. Fitz studied there for four years and graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biology. After completing their undergraduate studies, they went on to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) at Harvard Medical School. Fitz attended Harvard from 2003 to 2009 and specialized in the field of Neurobiology.

In addition to their formal education, Fitz Sturgill obtained a certification in Machine Learning from Coursera in May 2020. This certification suggests a professional interest and expertise in the field of machine learning.
