Weidong Shao

Weidong Shao has a diverse work history across different technology companies. Weidong is currently serving as the Sr Director of Neural Network Tools and Data Platform at Black Sesame Technologies Inc since January 2020. Prior to that, Weidong was a co-founder and Chief Cryptographic Architect at Meter, starting in May 2018.

From 2012 to 2019, Weidong worked at Futurewei Technologies, Inc. In this role, they held multiple positions, including Principal System Architect, Director of Engineering, and Director of Engineering - Open Source Networking. During their tenure, they collaborated with university researchers and blockchain communities on trust computing, hardware-based TEE and attestation, privacy-preserving data analytics, and user data security and privacy. Weidong also led innovation projects on cloud services and data center solutions for IT and carrier use cases.

Prior to their time at Futurewei Technologies, Weidong worked as a Senior Software Engineer at Google from March 2006 to July 2010. Their role primarily involved developing custom features for Gmail, focusing on email migration, compliance, auditing, spam policy, and authenticated relay. Weidong also worked on infrastructure networking projects, including Google's RPC system and a data analysis service for networking data.

Before their stint at Google, Weidong served as a Technical Leader at Cisco from February 2001 to March 2006. In this role, they contributed to the Call Manager Security Team in the Voice Technology Group, focusing on designing support for sRTP, creating monitoring/debugging tools for encrypted signaling and media, and collaborating with the Security Technology Group on voice protocol support strategies.

Weidong Shao has a strong educational background in engineering and mathematics. Weidong started their education at Tsinghua University from 1986 to 1991, earning a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Weidong then pursued a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland from 1992 to 1994. Later, from 2007 to 2009, Weidong attended Stanford University, where they completed a Master of Science degree in Computational Mathematics and Engineering.

In addition to their formal education, Weidong also holds certifications in various fields. In 2006, they became a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) through (ISC)². In 2018, they obtained the AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate certification from Amazon.
